Arthur Murray Ashburn is proud to announce classes for children aged 6 to 15.  Give your child confidence, social skills and knowledge of how to dance the most popular social dances.  It’s great exercise and will definitely help reduce the time you kid spends playing Fortnite! Whether your child is looking to compete, take part in high-level performances, or simply wants to learn for fun and exercise, we have the perfect classes to suit them.

When can my child start?

We have open enrollment, so your child can start at any time once classes commence.

What will be taught?

Each class is 40 minutes in length.  The classes will cover the most popular social dances including, Foxtrot, Waltz, Tango, Rumba, Cha-Cha, Swing, and Salsa.  We will focus on balance, posture, coordination, musicality and social skills. The material taught will be based on the world-famous Arthur Murray dance syllabus

How will the classes be taught?

Classes are taught in group class format to encourage social interaction.  Each class will be taught by certified Arthur Murray professionals who understand the fundamentals of movement, music, and balance.  Classes will begin with a fun and interactive warm-up followed by instruction in specific dances. As your child progresses, they will receive certificates to mark their advancement in skill level.

Will my child have to perform?

We never force a child to perform in public unless they want to.  However, public performances are an integral part of the learning process.  Much like recitals for piano or guitar, performances inspire greater efforts to learn and are great confidence boosters.  Students will have the ability to dance in informal studio spotlights as well as larger area-wide events.

Does my child need a partner?

Students do not need a partner to participate in classes.  We rotate partners in classes on a regular basis so that no child is left by themselves when working on partner-related material.

Do you require any special clothing or shoes?

Comfortable clothing that the student can move easily in is recommended.  In the beginning, no special footwear is required although we do not recommend sneakers with very sticky soles.  Eventually, your child will want to purchase ballroom dance shoes that have suede bottoms.

How many lessons do you recommend?

The number of lessons your child takes is totally dependent on how good they want to be and their aptitude for dance.  We have students who have been in the studio for years.

Should I stay during class?

Parents are free to drop off their children for class or wait in the reception area.  We do not recommend having the parents in the ballroom with the child as this provides a distraction, especially in the case of younger children.  Parents will have opportunities to observe classes on a periodic basis. They will also be able to see the progress of their child during our in-studio recitals.

What are the packages and what is the cost?

We enroll students on a month to month basis with no obligation to continue for any specific amount of time.  Enrolled students can take up to 2 group classes a week. One on one lessons with an instructor are an additional cost.  Please call the studio for current pricing.
